Deliberations on the “Revised Draft Biotechnology and Biosafety Policy 2003” in two Provinces of Zambia

With the technical support of AUDA-NEPAD, the Zambia National Biosafety Authority (ZNBA)organized a consultative validation meeting on the Revised Draft Biotechnology and Biosafety Policy 2003” in two Provinces of Zambia, Lusaka and the Central Province, on December 7th, 2021.
Forty- seven stakeholders from diverse institutions including ZNBA, the National Agricultural Research Systems (NARS), and Universities among others attended the workshop and actively contributed to the revised draft Policy.
In his opening remarks, Mr John Msimuko, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Green Economy and Environment conveyed positive message for Zambia’s need to revise the policy to make the country harness biotechnology and emerging technologies judiciously and safely.
Two similar validation sessions will be held soon and will cover the other provinces of the country before a national meeting for the final adoption of Revised Biotechnology and Biosafety Policy 2022.
