The Community of Practice (CoP) will enable you to further interact and continue your conversations online through group discussions, blogs and sharing of information or events. The topic for this forum is on the development and delivery challenges of food and nutrition programmes faced at national level.

This discussion forums will run from 10 November - 24 November. CoP members are encouraged to participate by sharing experiences, recommendations, best practices and lessons learnt on how they have addressed development and implementation challenges in the implementation of food and nutrition programmes at national level.

Contributions can be made in the form of comments and questions seeking clarification. After the two week period of discussion, the topic will be closed and a summary of the discussion will be posted as an outcome document on the CoP resources section.

The outcomes from this round of discussion will be used in preparation of the upcoming EAC-IGAD webinar planned for later in November.

Question:

What experiences have you had around knowledge management for nutrition sharing experiences, e.g. a national strategy for food and nutrition, virtual platforms, and nutritional scorecards?

The planned EAC-IGAD webinar will have include presentations from Zambia and Zimbabwe, countries that are at relatively advanced stages of knowledge management for nutrition share experiences, for example on their national strategy for food and nutrition, the virtual platforms, and nutritional scorecards.

In addition to Zambia and Zimbabwe, we would like to give the opportunity to 2 other countries (one from EAC and one from IGAD) to present their experiences during the webinar.

Great; I am looking forward to this inter-regional webinar on knowledge sharing between EAC, IGAD and SADC Member States

Simon Kisira   |   02 Nov 2018

This provides a unique opportunity for IGAD - and indeed Africa as a whole to re-write its development narrative; through virtual knowledge exchange, reflection and learning around topical matters on nutrition, the region and the continent will be able to collectively define appropriate solutions to the challenges faced in advancing the nutrition agenda in Africa.

This webinar will be the first orgnaised with NEPAD, IGAD and EAC on Food and Nutrition Security this Thursday, 22nd and 1pm EAT. We are excited to provide this platform and opportunity for countries to share some of the good practices in addressing 'Anemia' in Africa.

Kevin Kahatano   |   06 Dec 2018

I found the webinar on anemia to be very insightful. I was interesting finding out the impact of Anemia on women and communities in South Sudan.

I am looking forward to future webinars on more topics pertaining to Food and Nutrition in IGAD member states.

For the other CoP members who were part of the webinar, how did you find it in terms of the content and discussion as a whole? Also do you have any suggestions for potential topics for the next webinar, that could take place early next year?

Abiola   |   10 Dec 2018

I found the webinar very insightful and useful; especially the common factors of success that were identified by the participants.

I captured them as follows:

1) Community engagement and empowerment

2) Mentorship

3) Knowledge co-creation and collaboration (local communities working hand in hand with parliamentarians, the private sector, civil society, etc.)

4) Repackaging of knowledge and targeted advocacy

5) Access to knowledge

6) Ownership

7) Commitment

8) Private sector involvement

9) Integration of Nutrition in (primary) school curricula

10) Collection and connection of evidence-based data and information

We look forward to continue the discussion in 2019 and explore more important topics with regards to advancing Africa's Nutrition agenda.

Wishing you all a happy festive season!!

Kevin Kahatano   |   09 Jan 2019

Complements of the New Year to you all.

We look forward to having productive discussions on the CoP as well as webinars.

Do you have any suggestions on potential topics for a webinar for 2019?
